Connecting to the natural world around us: from nature corners and community walks to bush and beach kindy programs

Description

With continued interest in the area of nature play and reconnecting with our land, many early childhood services are looking for tangible ways to embed these values into their unique settings, whether it be through regular excursions, accessing community spaces, creating spaces for exploration within their own environment, or linking more sustainable values into the program and the Quality Improvement Plan.

At Lady Gowrie, we support and encourage services to reflect upon ways in which children, families and staff can further connect with the natural spaces around them, and to work in harmonious, respectful ways with the land. Often, like the trees around us, these projects may have humble beginnings and start quite small, but then enable us to discuss broader global topics with children, families, and amongst our own teams, and develop further ecological and social understandings.

We invite educators to come and listen to some of the shared stories from within the early childhood sector; to learn how various services have integrated environmental play into their settings, to hear about how they continue to overcome challenges and reflect on improving their experiences, and to discuss, enquire and ponder about possibilities for your early childhood spaces.
