Description

Planning with Children: Making Learning Matter

This session will offer provocations about thinking alongside young children. Whereas traditionally, planning for teaching and learning was the sole responsibility of a Teacher or Director of a children’s service, or perhaps even an employing authority, it is becoming increasingly clear that it is more productive, effective and respectful to evolve plans for children in partnership. These partnerships include staff teams, family members, consultants, and the children themselves. Participants will be invited to think about their current approaches to planning, perhaps while considering actual and perceived constraints to innovative thinking. Questions will be raised about short-term and longer term approaches to planning. While considering plans for individuals, small and larger groups of children, learning both inside and outdoors, the challenge of “Mattering Learning” will be introduced.
